About the course

MSPCurrently available via virtual classroom delivery! For closed courses of 8-16 delegates please contact us via the Enquiry Form.

The Managing Successful Programmes (MSP®) course provides guidance on the principles, themes and processes required to manage programmes in any environment. It is necessarily less detailed and prescriptive than the equivalent for projects (PRINCE2®) and at its highest level, demands much more of the practitioner.  MSP 5th Edition has been updated to contribute to how organizations invest in response to their changing circumstances and to empower them to realise tangible outcomes and benefits from their investment in programmes.
MSP is a globally recognized framework for best practice programme management, used by organisations to lead investments in change. This framework focuses on creating outcomes of benefit for organisations while mitigating risks and actively engaging stakeholders. It helps to align projects and programmes to organizational strategy and provides governance. It consists of a set of principles, themes, and processes that provide a clear roadmap for the programme lifecycle and ensure successful organisational outcomes.

The MSP 5th edition emphasizes more flexibility, adaptability, and responsiveness by adopting an incremental approach to the programme lifecycle and thus enabling organisational agility.
With this course, organisations and professionals can learn how to:
– enable organisational agility by adopting an incremental approach to the programme lifecycle
– respond positively to the challenges when managing programmes and larger, more strategic, or multiple projects
– align the delivery of programmes and projects to organizational strategy
– focus on the delivery of outcomes and benefits while understanding and mitigating risks
– gain stakeholder buy-in by actively engaging and managing internal and external stakeholders.

Our highly regarded Practitioner and Combined Foundation & Practitioner courses are structured so that the Practitioner exam is taken online directly after the training element (as per Foundation but at the end of the week). We recommend this approach to the post course online exam booking system as it ensures that the course content is fresh in the mind and enables delegates to leave having completed both the course and examination.

*BMC is proud to have maintained a pass rate of  98% at MSP Foundation and 83% at Practitioner level since the 5th Edition launched (October 2020).

Key Features

The MSP 5th Edition course covers:

The 7 principles are the driving requirements that are continually required to achieve value from programme management. These principles are universal,
self-validating, and empowering.

The 7 themes help organizations to identify key roles, responsibilities, and information needed to support the theme. The themes give very practical
guidance illustrating how MSP can be used according to the reasons for a programme. These reasons, or drivers, include:
- innovation and growth
- organizational re-alignment
- effective delivery
- efficient delivery.

The 7 processes provide a route through the lifecycle of a programme with an emphasis on the incremental nature of a programme enabling a cyclical
progression towards the desired future state.

A pre-course study pack is sent out by courier upon receipt of payment. This represents approximately 20hrs work in the form of exercises and reading - please note that MSP is a challenging subject and pre-course reading is essential. Previous delegates have described this as a "must" in terms of successful completion of the examinations.
