BMC are delighted to confirm that Ivor Gardiner, of Berwicks Consultants, will be joining us to talk about his perspectives on military transition, successful networking and the value and utility of consultancy.

Ivor spent over 22 years in the British Army as an Infantry and Special Forces officer. His regular military career was brought to a premature end soon after completing command of The 1st Battalion The Royal Irish Regiment when, due to extensive injuries, he was assigned to the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre. After two years of post-amputation rehabilitation he was medically discharged in May 2018. He has, since leaving, worked as a Director within Berwicks Consultants Limited. Berwicks specialises in Risk Management consultancy with broad experience in delivering leadership, crisis management and emergency response capabilities to high hazard, high consequence industries. For 20 years Berwicks has been a trusted adviser to the UK nuclear industry with clients including EDF Energy, Sellafield, AWE and the NDA. Other clients include Rolls Royce (Submarines), the HSE and the 2nd largest global methanol producing petrochemical company. Berwicks is a growing and diversifying organisation comprised of a combination of former (mostly senior) military officers and senior leaders from the emergency services and oil and gas.

Ivor has experienced the process of transition out of the military and the associated uncertainty. He also completed the BEMP course as part of this and has undergone a transformation from consultancy-cynic to consultancy advocate. He is able to share perspectives on this transition process, successful networking and the value and utility of consultancy done properly and for the right reasons. He looks forward to sharing these with the course and encourages an open forum approach; so please come armed with questions.
