PRINCE2® gets an update – what does it mean for you?

Axelos have today announced a long awaited update of the PRINCE2® qualification.

To help you get to grips with what the changes mean for you, whether you’re already or planning to become  PRINCE2 qualified, here are the key points:

  • There will be updated guidance, a new Manual and new Foundation and Practitioner exams
  • The 7 core elements will remain the same, albeit with stronger emphasis on tailoring projects to the needs of organisations
  • From release, there will be 2 ways PRINCE2 practitioners can remain current, via exam re-take or participation in a new program to satisfy criteria over a 3 year period
  • New Manual pre-orders go live in March, with launch in May 2017
  • New exams launching “mid 2017” – date tbc
  • From launch to end 2017, delegates can sit the current or the updated versions of the exams, with full transition from 1st January 2018
  • Current certifications will remain valid to end of 5 year period

Axelos have published a useful FAQ document to answer all your questions. The main changes to the exams are also set out here.

Should you wait for the PRINCE2 update?

The current PRINCE2 qualification remains valid, so there is no need to defer your course, unless you really wish to take the new exams in the second half of 2017. It’s a matter of personal choice, but bear in mind that there will be a slight increase in difficulty level, albeit over a reduced number of questions, whilst the time allowed remains the same. Another factor to consider is that pre-update qualifications will remain valid for 5 years – new PRINCE2 Practitioner certificates will have an expiry date of 3 years.

If you need any further advice on how the changes could affect you, please get in touch with our sales team on 0117 949 1500 and they will be happy to help.
